The St. Louis Art Museum

The St. Louis Art Museum is world-renowned for its extensive collections of paintings, sculptures, and ancient cultural artifacts from all over the world. It resides in a three-story building located within Forest Park. More can be found here.


History

The St. Louis Art Museum was once a part of Washington University in St. Louis and educated 40 years of artists and craftspeople from all over. When the 1904 Louisiana purchase Exposition ended in Forest Park, the Palace of Fine Arts was left standing, so the museum and school moved into that building. Collections

Art lovers come from all around the world to see the collections at the St. Louis Art Museum. Some of the European masters on display include Matisse, Gaugin, Monet, and Van Gogh. It also holds the world's largest Max Beckmann collection and several other German artists.

There are several handwoven Turkish rugs. The St. Louis Art Museum also holds the Egyptian mummy Amen-Nestawy-Nakht. In 2021, the widow of Joseph Pulitzer donated 22 paintings and sculptures including works by Pablo Picasso, John Miro, and Philip Guston.

Presently, the St. Louis Art Museum is hosting an exhibition of work by Ted L. and Maryanne Ellison Simmons Collection if you are interested in contemporary art, plus an additional exhibit of impressionism pieces.
